Company research project

You're going to research a company of your choice. This is an INDIVIDUAL project; however, your research will help you and your partners with your stock market project by exposing you further into a company.

You must select an original company (no two students may work on the same company). Please see Mrs. Largo to sign up for your company.
Company MUST be a public company trading stock on either the NYSE, ASE, or NASDAQ.
You will create a PowerPoint presentation that will be given to all students regarding your company.
You will need to write to the company and request a copy of their annual report. The 2006 annual reports may not be printed yet so please request the latest available report.
- You may have annual reports sent to your house or to me at the school. You *will* need this for our accounting unit so it is imperative that you obtain this
You will also need to write at least a one page typed reaction/analysis about the company. You must use no more than a 12-pitch font and may not use margins larger than 1".

These items will need to be included in your presentation:

Name of the CEO, President, and any executives you can (including CFO, COO, or CIO)
Strong history of the company, including the year and how the company was founded and any interesting facts about the company.
Complete mission statement of the company.
Any subsidiary companies owned by this corporation.
Products or services offered by corporation.
Stock ticker symbol, latest closing price, 52 week high, 52 week low, and a graph of the last 52 weeks. Be sure to include the date you obtained this information!
At least 2 recent (within the last year) news articles on your company and at least 1 must be from a source other than the company (preferably a newsworthy, objective source, like Chicago Tribune). You will discuss these in your powerpoint but turn in copies of the articles.

Tips!

Decide on a company right away!
Contact company and order annual report ASAP!
Pull up as much information as possible and print out.
Make the most of your time.
Get lab time scheduled on your lunch or study hall if you do not have access to PowerPoint or the Internet at home.

Presentation skills To receive all points possible, you must fully present your material in at least 4 but no more than 8 minutes. As a business professional, you will need to communicate clearly and effectively. This is an important skill in business!	5

History of company/facts To receive all points possible, history needs to be complete, accurate, and contain substance. Since you are using PowerPoint, you will be using bulleted lists. You must demonstrate an understanding and display a timeline of important historical events in the company's history, including the year and how the company was founded. Company news To receive all points possible, you must discuss during your presentation and summarize within your PowerPoint at least THREE newsworthy stories. The stories must be related to the company's business (which affects stock prices), printed within the last year, and from a reliable source! Copies of these articles need to be submitted separately.	6

Reaction/analysis paper To receive all points possible, the paper must be well-written, with no spelling or grammatical errors. You must meet the restrictions (no larger than 12 pitch font and 1" margins). Your paper must have substance, be well-thought out, and demonstrate a complete comprehension of the assignment. You need to analyze the information and draw logical conclusions about the company. Reactions to information found and read need to be fully explained.	10
